If you are carrying out a Job Search with a view to serving in the Navy Reserve, you have to fulfill certain criteria. If you are a qualified college educated professional with requisite skills in specified fields, you can be appointed directly, and however this is subject to some minimal training. This involves an instruction course of two weeks at Pensacola facility before starting service. If, however you have Prior Service; i.e. wish to join the navy reserve as a veteran of the services you may be able to rejoin at the rank and rating you held previous to your separation. With Prior Service, you would at least have undergone basic training and would therefore not be required to do so again.

If you are doing a Job Search with an eye to employment in the Navy Exchange, you have the option of managerial or supervisory positions as well as entry level and non-supervisory options. The Navy Exchange provides goods and services to authorized customers and provides support to quality of life programs for active duty military, retirees, reservists and their families. The exchange is self-sufficient and does not require tax-payer funding. There are 109 exchange complexes with 344 stores worldwide, 42 navy lodges and a 173 shop stores. There are 16,000 civilians serving with the exchange, so you need not have any military training or background for employment.

When you do a Job Search with a view to serving in the military, one of the main points of interest would be Military Pay. Apart from the base pay, housing allowance is paid to members who are authorized to reside off-base at government expense. Military pay also includes a monthly food allowance for when chow hall facilities are not provided. Naval and marines personnel also receive submarine and sea pay for serving aboard submarines and for duty at sea. Airforce and marines also receive flight pay when they are on flying status. There is a family separation allowance which gets paid upon separation from dependants for more than 30 days. Hardship duty is also paid for certain hardship duties for instance an airforce detachment overseas for a special mission etc.
